West of the Bairro Alto the city flattens out into the residential quarters where Lisbon's own families live. Tram 28 ends here, at the Prazeres cemetery, and this route follows its last stretch: the basilica of Estrela and its garden, then the market and streets of Campo de Ourique.

  1. Basílica da Estrela

A white baroque basilica finished in 1790, built by Queen Maria I to give thanks for the birth of a son. Climb to the roof for a view along the dome.
