Montjuïc in three hours
The Venetian towers, the magic fountain, the national art museum's Romanesque murals and terrace, and Miró's own foundation on the hill.
The Gothic Quarter route is the old city down on the flat; Montjuïc is the hill above the port, laid out for the 1929 exhibition and never short of space. The climb from the Plaça d'Espanya is by stairs and escalators, and the reward is the best collection of Romanesque art in the world and a terrace view over the whole city to the Sagrada Família.

Magic Fountain
The great fountain below the palace, built for the same exhibition. On some evenings it runs a light-and-music show; check the schedule before you come back for it.

MNAC
Up the stairs and escalators to the Palau Nacional. The Romanesque murals, peeled from Pyrenean chapels and remounted in replica apses, are the collection nobody else has; the steps in front of it are the city's best free view.
-
Fundació Joan Miró
Ten minutes along the hill to the white building Josep Lluís Sert designed for his friend in 1975, lit from above and full of the paintings, sculpture and tapestries Miró gave it himself.
