La Rambla is the tree-lined promenade from Plaça de Catalunya to the sea, and El Raval the old working-class district on its west side, once the city's red-light quarter and now its most mixed. This route goes down La Rambla to the market, then into the lanes of the Raval. Keep a hand on your bag: La Rambla is pickpocket territory.

  1. Font de Canaletes

The iron fountain at the top of La Rambla: drink from it, the saying goes, and you will come back to Barcelona. Barça fans gather here to celebrate.
