Kreuzberg was a corner of West Berlin closed in by the Wall, cheap enough for Turkish guest workers, artists, students and squatters, and it is still the city's most alternative district. This route crosses its eastern half, known by its old postcode as SO36, from the river to the canal. On Tuesdays and Fridays, finish at the Turkish market on the Maybachufer.

  1. Oberbaumbrücke

The double-decked brick bridge of 1896 over the Spree, a border crossing between East and West for pedestrians while the Wall stood.
