Singapore Flyer
Asia's giant observation wheel — 165 metres over Marina Bay, 30 minutes per rotation, and the F1 circuit wrapped around its feet.
About Singapore Flyer
The Singapore Flyer was the world's tallest observation wheel when it opened in 2008 and is still Asia's: 165 metres, spacious air-conditioned capsules the size of small buses, and a 30-minute rotation over the exact spot where three countries' waters and the world's busiest shipping anchorage meet. On a clear day the view runs past the skyline to Indonesian islands and the Johor coast — the only Singapore viewpoint where you really register that the city is a port before it is anything else, with hundreds of ships queued to the horizon.
The wheel's odd genius is its location inside the Marina Bay Street Circuit: the F1 night race literally bends around its base each autumn, and the capsules double as the grandstand nobody thinks of. Even outside race week, the circuit lights and pit buildings below give the rotation its foreground story, with Gardens by the Bay's Supertrees and the Sands surfboard composing the classic frame across the water.
Time it for dusk: board 20 minutes before sunset and the rotation hands you daylight, golden hour and the lit skyline in one go — and unlike the region's tower decks, the capsule glass is angled and clean enough for real photography. The premium capsule options (cocktails, dining rotations) exist for occasions; the standard ticket with an online timed slot is the sensible buy and usually walk-on outside weekends. Pair it with the Kampong Glam or hawker dinner across the bridge, or fold it into the Marina Bay evening circuit — Flyer at dusk, Spectra show at 8, Supertrees at 8:45 — for the full waterfront run.
