Midtown in three hours: Grand Central to Rockefeller Center
The constellations over Grand Central, the library's reading room, Times Square, St Patrick's and the art deco plaza at Rockefeller Center.
Midtown is New York at its most New York: the towers, the terminal, the lights. Almost everything on this route is free to walk into. Start at Grand Central in the middle of the morning, after the commuter rush, and finish at Rockefeller Center, whose observation deck is the one view of Midtown that has the Empire State Building in it.
