The old city has seven hills, like Rome, and the sultans crowned them with mosques. This route climbs from the Golden Horn to the third and the fourth: Süleymaniye, the greatest of Sinan's mosques, and Fatih, built on the site of the Church of the Holy Apostles. Between them are the Roman aqueduct still striding across the city, and Zeyrek, a Byzantine monastery church above a quarter of old wooden houses.
