SEA LIFE Bangkok fills 10,000 square metres beneath the Siam Paragon mall — an aquarium the size of three football pitches, holding some 30,000 animals in the last place you'd look for them: underneath one of Asia's glossiest shopping centres, in the dead centre of the BTS map. That location is the point. When Bangkok delivers its 3 PM monsoon dump or its April heat index, the city's best plan B is two floors down at Siam station.

The layout walks you through seven zones on a descending spiral: the rainforest tanks with their piranha wall and electric eel; the weird-and-wonderful gallery (leafy sea dragons, chambered nautilus, the octopus that has learned to watch you back); the touch pools and starfish nursery that hold children hostage for half an hour; and then the main event — a 270-degree acrylic ocean tunnel where sand tiger sharks, rays the size of dining tables and a green sea turtle named for good luck cruise overhead. Feeding shows rotate through the day (the shark feed and the penguin parade are the two worth planning around; grab the schedule card at the entrance).

It's a Merlin-operated attraction, which means polished, English-signed, stroller-friendly — and priced like it at the gate. Never pay the gate price: online timed tickets run 30–40% cheaper, and the combo with Madame Tussauds two BTS stops away suits a full rainy day. Weekday mornings are blissfully quiet; Bangkok school groups own the early afternoons.

Give it two hours, surface into Paragon's food hall — one of the city's best, conveniently at the aquarium exit — and you've built the definitive wet-season half-day: BTS in, sharks, khao soi upstairs, BTS out, no sky required.

  • Online timed ticket — 30–40% cheaper than the gate
  • Feeding-show schedule card at the entrance; plan around the sharks
  • Weekday morning slot to dodge the school groups
  • Light jacket — the aquarium AC is set to penguin
  • Lunch plan upstairs: Paragon food hall is at the exit
