Almost everything ancient in Athens sits inside one square kilometre under the Acropolis, linked by a pedestrianised street that did not exist thirty years ago. That street — Dionysiou Areopagitou and its continuation — is why both routes below work on foot and why neither needs a bus. Start early or start late: the rock has no shade at all.
