Djurgården in six hours
Along Strandvägen to the island of museums: the Vasa, ABBA, Skansen and the garden café at Rosendal.
Djurgården was the royal hunting park and is now Stockholm's museum island, a short walk from the centre across one bridge. You cannot do all of it in a day; this route picks the warship, the open-air museum and, whatever you think of it, ABBA, and ends with coffee in the garden at Rosendal.
The route, stop by stop
-
Strandvägen
The grand waterfront boulevard finished for the Stockholm Exhibition of 1897, with old steamboats moored along the quay.

Vasamuseet
The warship Vasa sank within minutes of setting out on her maiden voyage in 1628 and was raised, almost whole, in 1961. Nothing else like her survives.
-
ABBA The Museum
Costumes, the studio, and a stage where you can sing with the band on screen. Booked by time slot.
-
Skansen
The world's first open-air museum, opened in 1891: farmsteads and town houses moved from all over Sweden, and Nordic animals including elk and bears.
-
Rosendals Trädgård
An organic market garden beside a royal summer palace, with a café in the greenhouses and tables under the apple trees.
