Gamla Stan in three hours
The royal palace, the cathedral's St George, the square of the 1520 bloodbath and the narrowest lane in the city.
Gamla Stan is the island Stockholm grew from in the 13th century, and its street plan has hardly changed since. The palace takes up a quarter of it; the rest is lanes too narrow for cars, coloured merchants' houses and the square where the city's darkest day happened.
