September-October: Oktoberfest (the last two weeks of September and first week of October) draws 6-7 million visitors - book accommodation a year ahead or expect to pay PS500+/night. October-April: Munich's Christmas markets (Christkindlmarkt at Marienplatz, among the finest in Europe) run from late November. Winter skiing in the Alps is 90 minutes away. If you'd rather go cheap than perfect
January, February, March and November are low season in Munich — thinner crowds, and the months where accommodation is easiest to book late. Budget travellers already work to about $60–95 a day here; low season is where the accommodation share of that goes furthest.

Fares move with the same seasons as the crowds — the quiet months above are usually the cheap ones to fly.
