Lokrum and Mount Srđ in six hours
The island across the water, then the cable car up the mountain the city sits under.
The three-hour route walks the walls, which is what everyone comes for and is finished by lunchtime. This is what to do with the rest of the day, and both halves get you out of the crowd: a wooded island fifteen minutes offshore with a monastery and peacocks on it, and the mountain behind the city with the entire coast laid out from the top. Take the last cable car down for the sunset.

Lokrum Island
Arrive by ferry from the previous stop
Ferries every half hour from the old port. A Benedictine monastery, a botanical garden, a salt lake you can swim in and free-roaming peacocks introduced in the 1800s. No hotels and nobody lives there.
