Bordeaux vs Nice
Bordeaux or Nice? Both compared across the three travel tiers — budget, mid-range and luxury — for daily costs, hotels, food, things to do and the practical stuff that actually decides which one you should visit.
Bordeaux
France's wine capital rebuilt itself in pale limestone in the eighteenth century, and much of the city, the Port of the Moon, is a World Heritage Site. The quays that were warehouses are now a riverside promenade with a reflecting pool in front of the Place de la Bourse, the Cité du Vin stands at their northern end, and the châteaux of Saint-Émilion and the Médoc are an hour away.
Nice
The capital of the Riviera curves round the Baie des Anges behind the Promenade des Anglais. Its old town is more Italian than French — it was Savoyard until 1860 — with ochre lanes, a flower market and socca from a wood oven, and Monaco, Èze and Antibes are all a cheap train ride along the coast.
