Lisbon to Porto
Take the Train — 2h 35m, from €16, ~hourly
The Alfa Pendular is the obvious pick: 2h35 from Lisboa Oriente to Porto Campanhã, €35.70 in second class at 2026 fares and closer to €16 if you book two months out. The slower Intercidades does the same run in about 3h15 for €28. Coaches are only marginally slower than that at around three hours and cost a third as much, which makes them a real option rather than a fallback. Flying makes no sense on a 270 km hop.
Every way to make the trip
Intercidades covers the same route in about 3h15 for €28.05 if the Alfa is sold out.
Barely slower than the Intercidades train and consistently the cheapest way north.
Times are the fastest scheduled service for each mode; flights are gate to gate, before airport time. Fares are typical advance-booking ranges, not quotes. Checked 5 September 2026. Distance is straight-line — rail and road are longer.

Compare car hire at either end. Returning the car in the other city usually adds a one-way fee — check it before you book.

The cheapest fare our own price crawler has recorded on this pair is $53. It is a price we saw, not one on offer now.
A travel eSIM gets you online the moment you land in Portugal — data plans start at $4 — no roaming bill, no queue for a local SIM, and nothing to swap in and out of your phone. Install it before you fly.
Both ends of the trip
Travelling the other way? The comparison is the same — Porto to Lisbon runs on the same services, and both directions are covered above.
