New York Yankees vs Boston Red Sox
Yankee Stadium Bronx, NY
The oldest rivalry in American sport under the Bronx lights. Yankees–Red Sox is the marquee weekend series of the summer at Yankee Stadium — a full house, a charged crowd, and a fixture that regularly shapes the American League East. If you're travelling in for the game, it's a perfect excuse to build a long weekend around New York.

Before & after the game
Make a matchday of it — what to do around Yankee Stadium on either side of the first pitch.
Before the first pitch
-
Get there early for batting practice
Gates open around 90 minutes before first pitch. Turning up early lets you watch BP, take in the Monument Park plaques out beyond center field, and beat the 4-train crush at 161st St–Yankee Stadium.
-
Pre-game on River Avenue
The pinstripe tradition is a beer under the elevated tracks: Stan's Sports Bar and Billy's Sports Bar, right across from the gates on River Ave, have been the loud, packed pre-game institutions for decades.
-
Eat before the first pitch
Inside, the Lobel's carved-steak sandwich and a Bronx-brewed beer are worth the queue; outside, the food stalls along River Ave are cheaper and quicker if you're short on time.
After the final out
-
Let the platform clear
The 4, B and D trains at 161st St–Yankee Stadium jam solid the moment the game ends. Grab a post-game drink or walk a block while the crowd thins — you'll get a seat instead of a scrum.
-
Straight back to Manhattan
The 4 gets you to Grand Central and Midtown in about 20 minutes; the D drops you near Bryant Park and Herald Square. Both run all night, so there's no rush.
-
Make a night of it in the Bronx
Arthur Avenue — the Bronx's real Little Italy — is a short hop away for a late, unhurried Italian dinner, a far better meal than anything near the stadium gates.
