Bondi to Coogee in six hours
Six kilometres of clifftop path linking five beaches, a cemetery on the sea and two ocean pools.
The three-hour route does the harbour. This is the ocean side, and it is the best coastal walk in any major city — a marked path along the cliffs from Bondi south to Coogee, never more than a few hundred metres from sand. It is entirely exposed, so take water and a hat and do not start at midday in January. Buses run back from Coogee in about half an hour.
The route, stop by stop
-
Bondi Beach
A kilometre of sand and the most famous surf beach in the country. The path starts at the southern end past the Icebergs.

Bondi Icebergs
An ocean pool cut into the rocks in 1929 where waves break straight over the lane ropes. Swimming costs a few dollars; looking is free.
25 min here Walk here → -
Tamarama Beach
Small, steep and with a rip that has earned it the local name Glamarama for the people and something less printable for the water. The sculpture walk passes through here each spring.
20 min here Walk here → -
Bronte Beach
A grassy park behind the sand, a natural rock pool at the south end and the best coffee on the route.
30 min here Walk here → -
Waverley Cemetery
Fifty thousand graves on a clifftop above the Pacific, mostly white marble, and an oddly beautiful place to walk through. The path runs along its seaward edge.
20 min here Walk here → -
Clovelly Beach
A concrete-sided inlet rather than a beach, which makes it the calmest snorkelling in the eastern suburbs. A blue groper usually lives here.
25 min here Walk here → -
Coogee Beach
The end of the path. Wide, sheltered and with Wylie's Baths on the headland — a 1907 tidal pool on stilts that is worth the entry.
