Monaco is two square kilometres and vertical, so the walking is short and the stairs are not. This route starts on the Rock, which is the only old part of the country, and crosses the harbour to the Monte Carlo side. Public lifts connect most levels and are free; use them rather than the staircases.

  1. Monaco-Ville

The old town on a limestone outcrop, a grid of lanes above the sea. The changing of the guard outside the palace is at 11:55 exactly.
