Coyoacán in three hours
The blue house, the market, and the two colonial squares the village kept.
Coyoacán was a separate village until the city swallowed it, and it has kept the plan, the trees and the pace. It is about forty minutes south of the Zócalo and is the right antidote to the six-hour Centro route — low buildings, cobbles, and somewhere to sit. Book the Frida Kahlo house online days ahead; walk-up tickets sell out by mid-morning and the queue is not short.
The route, stop by stop
-
Frida Kahlo Museum
The house she was born in, lived in with Rivera and died in, kept as it was. Timed entry, booked online, and the courtyard garden is half the visit.
-
Mercado de Coyoacán
The tostada counters in the middle are the reason to come at lunch. Point at what the person next to you is eating.

Plaza Hidalgo
The heart of the old village, with the parish church of San Juan Bautista from 1522 on one side and organ grinders working the benches.
25 min here Walk here → -
Jardín Centenario
Across the road and through the arches, with the coyote fountain the district is named for. This is where to sit with a coffee and stop walking.
