Kazimierz and Podgórze in six hours
The Jewish quarter, the synagogues, the river crossing and the factory on the far side.
The three-hour route walks the Old Town. This is the harder half of Kraków and the more important one: Kazimierz was the Jewish town for five hundred years, Podgórze across the river was the ghetto the Nazis forced it into, and Schindler's factory is a fifteen-minute walk beyond that. Do it in this order. It only makes sense in this order.
The route, stop by stop
-
Szeroka Street
The heart of old Kazimierz and effectively a long square rather than a street, with the Old Synagogue at one end and the Remuh at the other.

Old Synagogue
The oldest surviving synagogue building in Poland, from the 15th century, now a museum of Kraków Jewish life. Gutted by the Nazis and rebuilt from photographs.
40 min here Walk here → -
Remuh Synagogue and Cemetery
Still an active congregation. The cemetery behind it holds gravestones from the 1500s, many reassembled from fragments the occupiers used as paving.
35 min here Walk here → -
Plac Bohaterów Getta
Seventy empty bronze chairs in the square where the ghetto's deportations were assembled, one for every thousand people sent from here.
30 min here Walk here → -
Pharmacy Under the Eagle
The only pharmacy inside the ghetto, run by a Pole who stayed and helped. Small, free on some days, and the most affecting room on this route.
35 min here Walk here → -
Schindler's Factory
Less about Schindler than about occupied Kraków as a whole, told street by street. Book ahead; it sells out daily.
