Hoi An was the trading port of central Vietnam from the 15th to the 19th century, until the river silted up and the trade moved to Da Nang, which left the town as it was. Its old quarter is a World Heritage Site and its sights are entered on a combined ticket. Stay into the evening, when the lanterns are lit and the streets are closed to motorbikes.
