Where to stay in Barcelona

A former independent village with a strong community feel. Plaza del Sol and Plaça de la Vila de Gràcia are full of locals, not tourists. Great for cheap vermouth, independent shops, and a taste of real Barcelona.

The old fishing quarter turned beach neighborhood. Sandy beaches, seafood chiringuitos, and the best paella in the city. Can feel overcrowded in summer but the waterfront promenade is always worth a stroll.

Barcelona's most diverse neighborhood. MACBA (contemporary art museum), vintage shops on Carrer de la Riera Baixa, and some of the best cheap eats in the city — from Pakistani to Mexican to Catalan.

The medieval heart of Barcelona. Narrow alleys open onto hidden plazas. Home to the Cathedral, Plaça Reial, and countless tapas bars. Beautiful but crowded — best explored early morning.

Barcelona's coolest neighborhood. The Picasso Museum, Santa Caterina market, and the best cocktail bars in the city. Walkable from the Gothic Quarter but far less touristy.

The grid-patterned district built in the 19th century. Home to Gaudí's masterpieces (Sagrada Família, Casa Batlló, La Pedrera), Michelin-starred restaurants, and designer shopping on Passeig de Gràcia.
